D.G. (Dorthea Gayl) Purcell Park, 68, died July 5, 2003, after a short illness. D.G. was born May 1, 1935, in Burley, Idaho to Marcas F. and Millicent Purcell. A memorial service will be held at the Arbor View Retirement Community Sunday July 20, 2003, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
She attended schools in Twin Falls and Parma, Idaho, and the College of Idaho (now Albertson's College) where she met her future husband, John Ho Sun Park. After their marriage they moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where their first son, Greg, was born. They returned to the states and settled in Lafayette, Calif., where their three other sons, Kelly, Mitch and Kevin were born.
D.G. worked at a small Natural History Museum in the Bay Area and later for Geosat in San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C. She returned to Oakland and established her own graphic design business, "The Edge."
Her interests were wide and deep. She loved opera, all the arts, books and perhaps most of all gardening. Wherever she lived her gardens were pure poetry. She is survived by her mother, Millicent Purcell of Santa Maria; four sons, Greg and his wife, Sue, Kelly and his wife, Jill and their two children Even and Christina, Mitch and his wife, Stella, Kevin and his wife, Jan and their children Jason, John and Annie all are from the Bay Area; her beloved aunt and uncle Gael and Earl Winn of Guadalupe also survive her. Her father preceded her in death.
